DNSChanger – Virus all over the news
As many of you know, most e-mails and notices concerning viruses are not true, however there is a virus first detected in 2011 that may affect users this coming Monday.
Due to protection in place on most of our clients’ computers and due to alerts provided by MTS and Shaw we do not believe any of our clients are affected, however it doesn’t hurt to be cautious.
The FBI helped shut down a criminal ring responsible for the DNSChanger virus in late 2011. At that time they noticed that about 250,000 computers would lose their connection to the internet if the FBI immediately shut down the criminal’s servers. So as a public service they set up clean servers to keep these user online.
But that courtesy is coming to an end Monday, and if your computer is one of the thousands still infected, you need to fix your machine so you can keep getting online.
